Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has partnered with Probus Smart Things to enhance smart metering technology by adopting a universal network interface card (NIC) with Bluetooth-enabled communication.
The collaboration aims to create innovative use cases and file joint patents for protecting the intellectual property developed through these efforts.

The universal NIC is designed to improve smart metering capabilities, enabling efficient communication even when primary networks are unavailable.
It offers enhanced connectivity, allowing meter data collection and reconnection/ disconnection in challenging network conditions, and integrates with mobile applications, improving user experience.
Probus Smart Things founder and CEO Anand Singh stated: “By working closely with Tata Power-DDL, we aim to set a new standard in smart metering technology.”
Initially, the advanced NIC will serve Tata Power-DDL’s operations, with plans to extend its benefits to more utilities and regions.
In other developments, Tata Power’s subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy recently partnered with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to explore opportunities in the battery energy storage system value chain.
The non-binding memorandum of understanding aims to enhance India’s energy security through renewable energy integration and advanced storage solutions.
The companies will explore applications such as utility-scale energy storage systems, grid stabilisation, renewable energy integration and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Tata Power-DDL – a joint venture between Tata Power and the government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi – distributes electricity in North Delhi and serves 9 million people.
