Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group), an offshore wind developer based in Taiwan, has announced a joint venture (JV) with Moondo Wind Energy (MWE) to advance offshore wind development in South Korea.
The JV, named Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, will develop an 840MW wind farm near Geomundo Island, Yeosu City, in Jeollanam-do Province, at the southwestern tip of the Korean peninsula.
The JV marks SRE Group’s inaugural entry into the South Korean market and its second international venture after expanding into Northern Kyushu, Japan.
MWE CEO Honglyol Song stated: “I am pleased to collaborate with SRE on Korea’s offshore wind project. SRE’s advanced technology and extensive experience in Taiwan will ensure the successful implementation of the Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, making a significant contribution to Korea’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve RE-100.”
The South Korean government has already granted the electricity business licence for the new bottom-fixed offshore wind project.
The project will contribute significantly to the region’s energy transition efforts.

By GlobalDataSRE chairperson Lucas Lin said: “With the Korean government’s plan of ramping up renewables, we are excited to play a role in the country’s burgeoning offshore wind sector. Over the past decade, SRE has built a strong track record as a leading offshore wind developer in Taiwan.
“We are keen to share our expertise and experience with neighbouring markets and look forward to collaborating with our local partners, leveraging their deep local insights as we strive toward achieving net zero emissions.”
SRE Group also announced the opening of a new office in central Seoul. The company aims to gradually assemble a team of local and international professionals dedicated to offshore wind, driving the region’s energy transition.
The move aligns with SRE Group’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the South Korean renewable energy market.
In October 2024, SRE Group announced that it had secured an establishment permit from Taiwan’s Energy Administration for its 495MW Formosa 4 offshore wind project – the company’s third offshore wind endeavour in Taiwan.
