US-based Southern Power has acquired its tenth wind project with the 100MW Wildhorse Mountain Wind Facility in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma.
Financial details of the acquisition have not been divulged by the companies.
Wildhorse Mountain will be the fourth wind project for Southern Power within Oklahoma. With the latest addition, the company’s wind portfolio will now comprise more than 1,600MW in generation capacity.
The acquisition is said to be in line with the company’s overall business strategy to strengthen its wholesale business by acquiring and developing generating assets.
Wildhorse Mountain Wind Facility was developed by Roaring Fork Wind, which is a co-development partnership between Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES) and Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas.
Southern Power president and CEO Mark Lantrip said: “We are proud to announce our tenth wind project as we continue to build the future of energy.

By GlobalData“Wildhorse Mountain is a great project for Southern Power’s growing footprint and a shining example of our collaborative partnership with RES. Our long-time partner Vestas was also a key player in delivering on this project. We look forward to its completion and operation.”
Wildhorse Mountain will consist of 29 wind turbines supplied by Vestas, while RES will provide the balance of plant construction to the facility.
Vestas has also agreed to provide a long-term maintenance of the turbines through a 20-year service agreement.
Wildhorse Mountain is expected to begin its commercial operations in the fourth quarter of next year.
Once operational, energy generated by the Wildhorse Mountain Wind Facility will be sold to Arkansas Electric Cooperative (AECC) under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
AECC president and CEO Duane Highley said: “AECC works on behalf of more than 500,000 electric cooperative members to add resources, like the 100MW of capacity from Wildhorse Mountain Wind Facility, to its generation portfolio.
“This wind facility along with AECC’s diverse, reliable generation portfolio provides energy at the lowest possible cost to our members.”
