SEG Solar, a US-based solar photovoltaic (PV) modules manufacturer, held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new 5GW integrated PV industrial park in Indonesia.

Located in Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang, Central Java, the new development marks a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy and its commitment to investing in the Southeast Asia region.

The industrial park will be involved in the entire production process of silicon ingots, wafers, cells, and modules, positioning it as the largest vertically integrated PV industrial park in Indonesia.

The initial phase of the project is set to include the construction of ten advanced N-type cell production lines, each with an annual capacity of 5GW.

Completion of this phase is targeted for the second quarter of 2025.

In a strategic move to foster comprehensive business growth within the PV sector, SEG Solar plans to partner with various component suppliers.

These collaborations will involve companies specialising in the production of wafers, ingots, junction boxes, frames, and ethylene vinyl acetate films. The aim is to create a strong manufacturing ecosystem in Indonesia that will support the entire PV value chain.

SEG Solar co-founder and general counsel Michael Eden said: “As a crucial part of SEG’s overall strategy, we are committed to developing the Indonesian facility into a highly efficient and competitive vertically integrated PV industrial park by optimising the upstream and downstream layout of the N-type industrial chain.

“The solar cells and solar panels produced at this industrial park will support the Indonesian government in its carbon emission reduction plan and supply SEG Solar’s module factory in Houston, USA, ensuring traceability and reliability of the supply chain.”

In August this year, SEG inaugurated its 585W Yukon series module in Texas, making it one of the first manufacturers to achieve module production in the US.
