Danish energy giant Ørsted has selected Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian to supply inter-array submarine cables for its 2.85GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, to be located 120km off the UK coast.
Prysmian will design, manufacture, supply and test the inter-array submarine cable system that will connect all the wind turbines to the offshore converter station.

The Italian company will produce 280km of 66kV inter-array cables with XLPE insulation, meeting 50% of the wind farm’s requirements.
It will produce all the submarine cable cores at its facilities in Montereau and Gron, France, while the armouring and assembling processes will take place at the Nordenham plant in Germany. The cables will be delivered in 2026.

In July 2023, Ørsted won a contract for difference for the offshore wind farm from the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
