Danish company Ørsted is the most sustainable energy company and the fourth most sustainable company in the world, according to analysis by Corporate Knights.
In the report, Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, Ørsted beat more than 7,500 other companies to achieve such a high ranking.
In its analysis Corporate Knights found that Ørsted performed well because a high share of its revenue is earned from products and services that have environmental and social benefits.
Ørsted CEO Henrik Poulsen said: “Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time. We must dramatically accelerate the transformation of the world’s energy systems from fossil fuels to renewables to help protect our planet for future generations.
“At Ørsted, we have reduced our carbon emissions from our energy production by 67% over the past decade towards our vision of a world that runs entirely on green energy. Being ranked among the world’s most sustainable companies makes us both humble and proud, and encourages us to pursue our global investments in sustainable energy.”
The high rating highlights the changes made by the Danish company in recent years. Previously known as Dong Energy, the company was working in the oil and gas sector before selling to Ineos for $1.05 billion in 2017. After this it changed its name and began to invest in wind technology.
