Canada’s Next Hydrogen Solutions has partnered Sungrow Hydrogen Sci&Tech to expedite the commercialisation and scaling of its water electrolysis technology.
Next Hydrogen will make use of Sungrow Hydrogen’s existing 3GW manufacturing facility, allowing the company to fulfil large-scale orders from 2026.
The partnership ensures that Next Hydrogen retains control of its intellectual property and the design of its electrolysis systems.
Sungrow Hydrogen will support the project by providing the necessary balance of plant systems, improving the overall efficiency of the supply chain and reducing costs.
In addition to manufacturing, the two companies will collaborate on co-developing and cross-selling products, enabling them to offer a more comprehensive range of green hydrogen solutions.
These solutions are aimed at sectors such as ammonia production, aviation fuel, refining, steelmaking and transportation.
Next Hydrogen will continue its research and development activities in Canada.
The companies are considering expanding Next Hydrogen’s manufacturing presence in North America to meet both regional and global demand.
This expansion strategy is designed to ensure local production capabilities, maintain flexibility in the supply chain and align with evolving regional clean energy policies.
Next Hydrogen president and CEO Raveel Afzaal stated: “Sungrow Hydrogen is one of the largest water electrolyser companies globally, with a dominant market share in China and strong backing from its parent company, which was recently rated number one for bankability by Bloomberg NEF [New Energy Finance].
“By leveraging Sungrow Hydrogen as an OEM partner, we can accelerate our path to market and efficiently scale production to meet demand for large-scale green hydrogen projects.”
This strategic partnership is expected to expedite the global shift towards green hydrogen by providing scaleable and cost-effective solutions that contribute to achieving clean energy goals worldwide.
Sungrow vice-president and Sungrow Hydrogen chairman Peng Chaocai stated: “Next Hydrogen has developed an innovative electrolyser design optimised for direct connection to renewables.
“We will apply our technical innovation, commercialisation and manufacturing expertise to help scale production, while also leveraging Next Hydrogen’s deep knowledge of the North American market.
“Together, we will combine our expertise in water electrolysis to deliver the best products at the best price, driving large-scale adoption of green hydrogen worldwide.”
