Finnish power sources manufacturer Wärtsilä has received an order to deliver a 40MW smart power generation plant to Geita Gold Mining in Tanzania, Africa.
Under the terms of the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order, Wärtsilä will supply 32TS engines, which operate on heavy or light fuel oil.

The contract is included in the Finnish company’s order book for the Q4, 2016. On completion, the plant will be able to generate a reliable power supply for the Geita gold mine, which is located in the Lake Victoria goldfields of the Mwanza region of north-western Tanzania.
The plant is expected to commence operations during the Q1, 2018.
The 32TS engines are two-staged turbocharged, which makes them suitable for use in tough operating environments, such as the high-elevation location of the Geita gold mine site.

Geita has awarded the contract to Wärtsilä based on the reliability, high-efficiency, and quality of its solutions, which will be essential to keeping the mine operational at all times.
Currently, Wärtsilä has a total installed base of over 6,500MW in Africa and a total installed base of more than 60GW in 176 nations worldwide.
