Voith Hydro has received a contract for the extensive modernisation of three hydropower generators at the Kettle generating station in the Canadian province of Manitoba.
The scope of contract, awarded by Manitoba Hydro, includes the replacement of stator frames, new cores and windings, pole re-insulation and the installation of new coolers.
Once the project is complete, each of the renovated units will be rated at 120MVA.
The Kettle power station, which is claimed to be the second-largest in Manitoba, has a total of 12 units with an installed capacity of 1,220MW.
It was commissioned in the early 1970s and will now undergo rehabilitation for continuation of renewable energy production for further decades.
The Kettle generating station, built on the lower Nelson River, is located north of the 56th parallel, roughly 3km upstream from the Canadian National Railway’s river crossing near the town of Gillam.
