US-based energy company Tenaska has acquired a 470MW development portfolio from Minneapolis-based energy company PRC Wind.
As part of the acquisition, Tenaska has taken over three mid-stage projects in Minnesota and North Dakota. They will be interconnected to the midcontinent independent system operator (MISO) regional transmission system, while one of the projects will also be interconnected with Southwest Power Pool.
Tenaska's president of development Greg Kelly said: “Tenaska has established itself as a leader in energy development.
“We successfully leveraged our expertise in natural gas-fuelled power generation to solar, and now we are excited to build on our renewables record with these wind development projects.”
Tenaska's vice-president of development Joel Link said: “These projects are located in regions with both good wind resources and a growing need for renewables. We are excited to add them to Tenaska’s development portfolio.”
PRC Wind will provide support to complete local development activities, while Tenaska takes responsibility of construction, financing, and operations.
Based in Omaha, Nebraska, Tenaska has developed nearly 10,000MW of natural gas-fuelled and renewable power projects. Its 150MW Imperial Solar Energy Center West in Southern California, has recently commenced commercial operations and provides renewable power to San Diego Gas & Electric as part of a long-term power purchase agreement.
