UK-based power generator SSE has started construction on a 162MW extension of the 350MW Clyde wind farm, located east of east of Abington in Scotland.
Principal contractors for the wind farm, Balfour Beatty will be in charge of the project, which will be equipped with 54 turbines.

By GlobalDataConstruction of the turbines is expected to take two years period and will involve mobilising the existing Clyde access A at Wandel, A702 within South Lanarkshire, and via a secondary forestry access south of Tweedsmuir on the A701, within Scottish Borders.
The extension will raise the wind farm’s total capacity to almost 512MW.
SSE has set-up a community council liaison group with representatives from each community council to redress the local concerns regarding the development.
Clyde Extension community liaison manager Kirstanne Land said: "Throughout construction and operation, the Clyde extension project is expected to bring significant local benefits to the South Lanarkshire, Scottish Borders, and Dumfries and Galloway regions through direct and in-direct employment, skills training and over £20m of long-term support for community projects from the community benefit fund."
The Scottish Government approved the extension project in July 2014, where it would be built between Biggar, Abington and Moffat. .
In 2011, SSE carried out construction of the existing facility, which has 152 turbines.
