Siemens has been awarded a contract by Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for supply of large gear units and gear components for vertical mills for coal grinding.
Under the contract, Siemens Drive Technologies Division will supply large gear units and gear components for vertical mills to cover their overall demand in the coming three years.
Siemens Industry Sector Mechanical Drives Segment head Dr Bernhard Hoffmann said, "We see this major order as a convincing vote of confidence from BHEL in the reliability of the Flender gear units and the commitment and cooperation of our employees."
The company will deploy the Flender gear units in vertical mills with an output of 800kW and 1,000kW, which are used for coal grinding in the power plants.
The powerful and reliable drives feature a rugged design, making them ideal for the harsh ambient conditions in power plants and permit smooth operation.
Comprising a combination of a bevel gear stage with a planetary stage for high performance and reliability even in a harsh environment, the Flender gear can be used in coal grinding. In addition to this a high power density can be achieved and at the same time the forces from the grinding operations are transferred to the foundation through the gear casing.
