Siemens has secured contracts from two energy firms in Argentina for seven SGT-800 industrial and two Industrial Trent 60 gas turbines.

Energy producer Albanesi ordered the SGT-800 turbines, while the aeroderivative Industrial Trent 60 machines are being procured by international energy group SoEnergy.

The units will provide a combined electrical capacity of nearly 500MW and will help Argentina meet the electricity shortfall. As per the terms of the deal, Siemens will be supplying two SGT-800 turbines to each of the power plants in Rio Cuarto and San Miguel de Tucuman in Argentina. Three of the turbines will be installed in the Argentine city of Ezeiza.

The two aeroderivative turbines will be generating electricity at the gas-fired power plants in El Salto and Rio Tercero.

Siemens will be manufacturing its SGT-800 turbines in Sweden and the two Industrial Trent 60 turbines in the US and Canada.

Power consumption in Argentina is growing at a rate of approximately 6% per annum. To meet this growing demand, the country plans to invest extensively in new power plants.
