Siemens has completed extensive service operations on gas turbines at Dubai’s Jebel Ali K-station ahead of schedule in a record time of only 29 working days.

Owned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the power plant has been in operation since 2002.

The outage featured a rotor-swap, a technique developed by DEWA to utilise a spare rotor, and other critical parts stored at the project site, to optimise the availability of each unit and reduce idle time while waiting for the completion of rotor assembly work.

Under the deal, Siemens was responsible for delivering supervisory services for three of Jebel Ali K-station's turbines, enabling further efficient and reliable operation of approximately 100,000 hours.

The upgrades have also helped increase the power plant’s energy output by 62.6MW and enhanced the facility’s efficiency by nearly 0.5%.

All gas turbines need to be dismantled for maintenance services after a certain number of operating hours. Usually, this kind of an upgrade takes up to 45 working days, with the involvement of more than 100 personnel with varied technical expertise.
