French energy management and automation company Schneider Electric has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with electric utility firm Engie to offer digital solutions to increase efficiencies in the renewable energy sector.
Under the agreement, the two companies aim to research and deploy new digital solutions that would help increase the operational efficiency of renewable assets, both wind and solar photovoltaic (PV).

ENGIE executive vice-president Didier Holleaux said: “ENGIE’s objective is to develop remote supervision and control of its global renewable energy production assets, and possibly other energy assets as well, to optimise their performance.
“We are working in close collaboration with Schneider Electric with a shared vision of the challenges of an energy world that is decarbonised, digitalised and decentralised.”
New digital solutions can be explored by leveraging Schneider Electric’s Wonderware brand-powered supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and Historian and associated application software.
Under the agreement, Engie and Schneider will also investigate SCADA obsolescence management, cyber security in a complex network, asset management, and remote monitoring and diagnostics.
Schneider Electric Building and Information Technology (IT) executive vice-president Philippe Delorme said: “Schneider Electric leverages its software solutions to address and solve customer needs in new and efficient ways, which will now benefit to Engie, a great business partner of Schneider Electric over the past decade.
“Our combined technology and industry expertise can help identify new opportunities on how to better serve the energy market, while providing greater access to affordable, clean energy.”
Schneider Electric and Engie already operate as strategic partners to provide real-time monitoring and management of Engie’s European wind and solar power facilities.
