UK-based Offshore Wind Consultants (OWC) has been selected by an undisclosed Taiwanese renewables company to provide consultancy services.
As per the terms of the deal, OWC will provide technical due diligence services related to wind turbine installation vessels. This is the first contract secured by OWC in the Taiwanese offshore wind sector.
OWC's managing director Ian Bonnon said: “Offshore Wind is growing rapidly in Taiwan and elsewhere in Asia and these markets are now a target for OWC.
“The installation challenges and therefore the lessons are similar to those in Europe and we bring considerable experience from this market, which is why we were chosen for this assignment.”
Taiwan is seeking to achieve 600MW offshore wind capacity by 2020, and 3GW by 2030. The country has already taken initiatives towards development of a number of such projects and has a considerable number of zones for leasing or development.
OWC was acquired by energy consultancy group Aqualis in June 2014 and is now focused on providing independent services to the offshore renewables industry.
