German company Nordex has received an order to replace 16 existing N60/1300 turbines at Altenbruch I windfarm for PNE Wind.
Located near Cuxhaven in Germany, Altenbruch I will be repowered by the end of this year, with the old turbines being replaced by nine new N117/3000 models.
The existing turbines were deployed at the site 18 years ago and have now been reduced by almost half. However, the farm is expected to be capable of producing more than double its current generation capacity.
Nordex’s Germany business in charge Jörg Hempel said: "In Germany it is important to increase the output of existing windfarms and to simultaneously reduce the number of turbines.
The old turbines will be replaced by nine new N117/3000 models.
"Looking forward, this will become even easier to do as we will be continuing to increase the installed capacity of our Delta series, making the system even more efficient."

By GlobalDataLast year, almost 18% of all new installations across Germany were repowered. Upgrading and repowering both helps increase full-load hours and improves grid compatibility. It also significantly lowers rotor speeds and noise emissions.
The new turbines have a hub height of 91m and a total height of 149.9m. They are expected to be operational later this year.
