A consortium of France-based Nexans and Siemens Transmission and Distribution has been awarded a contract to link the new Beatrice Offshore Windfarm to the Scottish grid.
Under the terms of the €245m turnkey contract, Nexans will supply two complete 220kV export cable circuits to meet rising energy demands in the region. Once fully operational, the offshore windfarm will be able to cater to the power needs of over 450,000 British families.
The two circuits will be both manufactured and delivered by Nexans. They will be 90km, with a total of 260km onshore and offshore cables. C/S Nexans Skagerrak will be deployed to lay the cables, while the Capjet system will be used to trench for seabed protection.
Nexans’ high voltage and underwater cable business group senior executive vice-president Dirk Steinbrink said: "This contract represents Nexans commitment to meeting the growing energy demands and facilitates energy transition in Europe.
"It highlights our ability to deliver turnkey projects for connecting offshore windfarms to the grid."
The 588MW Beatrice Offshore Windfarm project is located in Moray Firth 13.5km from Caithness in northern Scotland. It will include 84 turbines of 7MW each.
