A joint report issued by the US Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed that hackers have been targeting the computer networks of companies operating nuclear power stations and other energy facilities for the past two months.
First revealed by The New York Times, the report stated that several manufacturing plants in the US and other countries have also been targeted.

The officials of affected nuclear power plant in Kansas Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating did not officially comment on the cyber attacks, but said that its operations systems had not suffered damage from hacking, according to the publication.
The joint report did not mention the motive behind the attacks and the number of facilities affected and the success rate of the attacks also remained unclear.
In a joint statement with the FBI, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said: “There is no indication of a threat to public safety, as any potential impact appears to be limited to administrative and business networks.”
