Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has been awarded a contract to supply a set of gas turbines and steam turbines for the Bheramara gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in Bangladesh.
The Bheramara GTCC power plant will be developed by North-West Power Generation Company (NWPGCL), a regional power provider under the Government of Bangladesh, while Marubeni is the prime contractor.
Under the contract, MHPS will provide the set of gas turbines and steam turbines to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which is assigned with construction of the power plant by Marubeni on EPC basis.
MHPS is scheduled to commence delivery of the equipment in September 2015.
Located in the Khulna District approximately 150km north-west of Dhaka, the Bheramara combined cycle power plant (CCPP) will be constructed with support from an ODA loan provided by the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The 410MW Bheramara CCPP, which is claimed to be one of the largest GTCC power plants in Bangladesh, will meet approximately 5% of the country’s total power demand while contributing to Bangladesh’s economic development.

By GlobalDataMHPS will also develop and deliver an M701F4 gas turbine and a steam turbine for the project.
GTCC power plants can generate electricity in two stages through the combined use of gas and steam turbines.
Additionally the GTCC power plants achieve higher thermal efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions by using high-temperature exhaust from the gas turbine to produce the steam that drives the steam turbine.
NWPGCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), which is a state-operated entity executing power supply to Bangladesh’s north-west region.
