Masdar's CEO Mohamed Al Ramahi and Jordan’s state electricity provider National Electric Power Company's CEO Abdul Fattah Daradkeh have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 200MW photovoltaic (PV) plant.

The PPA follows an agreement in January between Jordan’s energy ministry and Masdar for the development, ownership, and operation of the facility.

"The solarpower plant will raise the international profile of Jordan as a key destination for utility-scale renewable energy projects."

Masdar has established completely owned unit Baynouna Solar Energy Company (BSEC) to oversee the development and implementation of the project, reported Emirates247.com.

Jordan's Energy Minister Dr Ibrahim Saif was also quoted as saying: "The solarpower plant will raise the international profile of Jordan as a key destination for utility-scale renewable energy projects, stimulate local job creation and knowledge transfer, and further incentivise the adoption of commercial clean energy in the Middle East and North Africa."

The power facility will be connected to Al Muwaqqar substation, which is around10km from Amman. Once it is connected to the national grid, it will supply power annually to around 110,000 homes while reducing an estimated 360,000t of carbon dioxide emissions.
