Enel Green Power Chile (EGPC) has started production at its 160MW photovoltaic (PV) solarpark in Chile.
Having invested $270m in constructing the company’s largest solar facility in the South American country, Enel’s subsidiary has connected the solar plant to the grid Finis Terrae.
Located approximately 1,300km north of Santiago, in the municipality of Maria Elena in the Antofagasta Region, the 160MW Chilean solarpark can produce more than 400GWh every year. It is being capable of meeting the annual power consumption needs of nearly 198,000 Chilean households.
The solar plant also helps cut CO2 emissions by more than 198,000t per annum.
The $270m investment made by the Italian company to build the power plant has been was financed through the company’s own resources.
Electricity generated by the solar PV plant will be supplied to Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING), the Northern Region Transmission Network of Chile.
