Calpine Corporation has unveiled plans to build two geothermal plants in Sonoma Country, California, US, with an investment of $700m.
The plants, to be located adjacent to its existing Geysers steam field, are expected to generate a 98MW of clean energy.
Construction of the two projects will commence in 2012 and 2016, once Calpine secures all regulatory approvals and permits.
The first plant is expected to commence operations in 2014.
The two new plants are set to provide a further greenhouse gas emission reduction of 139,000-199,000t of carbon dioxide per year, reports North Bay Business Journal.
