Power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has commissioned the second 40MW generating unit at the Teesta Low Dam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) Stage-IV in West Bengal, India.
It follows commissioning of the first 40MW hydroelectric power unit in February.
The 4x40MW Teesta HEP on the River Teesta in Darjeeling district is being developed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
The project’s remaining two units are also in advanced stages of execution, the company said.
Bhel carried out the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of vertical shaft kaplan turbines at the project.
The company is also responsible for all electrical and mechanical works at the project.

By GlobalDataBhel is performing all equipment manufacturing work for the project at its production plants located in Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur, Mumbai and Bengaluru in India.
In West Bengal, Bhel is also executing the 3x40MW Rammam Stage-III hydroelectric project of NTPC.
The company is also executing NHPC’s 4x200MW Parbati HEP Stage-II in Himachal Pradesh and the 3x110MW Kishanganga HEP in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhel has been contracted for hydro-generating sets of more than 29,000MW to date in India and abroad.
The company has so far commissioned nearly 400 hydro-generating sets totalling 20,000MW in India.
Bhel also commissioned a 600MW thermal unit at the upcoming Singareni Thermal Power Project (TPP) in the Indian state of Telangana.
The 2x600MW TPP is being developed by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the second largest coal mining company in the country.
