Germany-based alternative investment company Aquila Capital has announced plans to increase the capacity of its Midtfjellet windfarm in Norway by 40MW.
As part of the plan, 11 new Nordex N117 turbines will be installed at the farm. Each turbine will have capacity to produce 3.6MW of power.
The units will be installed under the third build-out phase of the windfarm and are expected to be commissioned by early 2019.
This move is expected to increase the annual production of the Midtfjellet windfarm by around 110GWh capacity.
The Midtfjellet facility became operational in 2013 and currently features 44 Nordex N100 and N90 turbines, which were built in two construction phases.
Aquila Capital CEO and co-founder Roman Rosslenbroich said: “Our majority stake in Midtfjellet Vindkraft was an important step for us in the implementation of our Renewable Energy Strategy in Scandinavia.

By GlobalData“The Nordics generally offer very good wind resources and windpower requires lower capital expenditures than in many other feed-in tariff markets, thus the levelised costs of energy of wind in such markets are very competitive.”
