Hydro Refurbishment

Andritz Hydro has won a contract from Shardarinskaya HPP, a subsidiary of Samruk Energy, for the modernisation of electromechanical equipment at the 104MW hydropower plant in Kazakhstan.

Under the contract, which is valued at €75m, the company will refurbish four Kaplan turbines with a runner diameter of 5.3m that will increase the output of each turbine by around 20% from the current 26MW to 31.5MW.

The contract calls for the replacement of governors systems and 35MVA generators, supply of static excitation systems and cooling water system, refurbishment of drainage and dewatering system, and all civil work for replacement and refurbishment work.

In addition to this, the company will also replace components of the control, protection and electrical auxiliaries of the plant, with the work scheduled for completion during the second half of 2017.

In October 2012, the developer had sought bids for the said modernisation works at the Shardarinskaya plant located on the Syr-Darya River that was originally commissioned in 1967.

In August 2012, Shardarinskaya HPP had completed project financing of around €45m for the plant extension, which was estimated to cost around €74.5m.
