Infrastructure investment company Ancala Bioenergy has acquired Biogen for an undisclosed sum from joint venture (JV) partners Bedfordia Group and Kier Group.
Biogen owns and operates a portfolio of seven anaerobic digestion plants located in Bedford, Rushden, Baldock, and Atherstone in England and Aberdare, St Asaph, and Caernarfon in Wales, UK.
Ancala Partners' managing partner Spence Clunie said: “Biogen is well known in the industry as one of the leading owners and operators of anaerobic digestion plants.
“The team has more than ten years of experience in the sector and their operational excellence and commercial reach provide Ancala with an established platform from which to expand in the sector.”
The anaerobic digestion plants provides cost-effective, low-carbon food waste management solutions to supermarkets, the hospitality industry, food manufacturers, and local authorities across the country by recycling approximately 250,000 tonnes of food waste each year. The plants use anaerobic digestion technology to convert this waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich biofertiliser.
The anaerobic digestion plants have an installed power generation capacity of approximately 13MW and are capable of generating enough renewable energy to supply 25,000 UK households.
