Alstom has won a contract from Sinohydro to provide critical equipment for the 275MW Soubre hydropower project being built on the Naoua falls over the Sassandra River on the Ivory Coast.
Under the contract, Alstom will supply electromechanical equipment including three 90MW Francis turbine-generator sets, a 5MW Bulb turbine-generator set and related equipment for the project.
The scope of the contract includes design, manufacturing, supervision, installation, commissioning, testing of all the equipment and site services, with equipment set to be made at Alstom’s Tianjin hydro industrial site in China.
As engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, Sinohydro began construction on the project in February 2013 and expects to complete it in around five years.
Of the total cost, $556m or 85% is being funded by China’s Export-Import Bank, while the Cote d’lvoire Government will fund the remaining construction cost of the project, which will have an average annual output of 1,100GWh.
The Chinese bank will fund the project through a 20-year loan at a 2% interest rate and a grace period of nine years.
