Alstom has secured a contract worth approximately €225m to supply equipment for the Al-Anbar combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) project in the Anbar province in Iraq.
As per the contract, Alstom will supply four highly efficient GT26 gas turbines, four heat recovery steam generators, two steam turbines and six air-cooled turbogenerators for the Al-Anbar gas-fired CCPP project.
The 1,642MW project is being built by a consortium of Metka and Metka Overseas for the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq under an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract. The project is set to be commissioned in 2016.
In June 2013, the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq awarded a contract worth approximately $1.1bn to the Metka and Metka Overseas consortium for the Al-Anbar project. Metka is executing the project in collaboration with SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction.
Alstom Gas business senior vice-president Steve Meszaros said that the Middle East is the most promising market for gas-fired generation and the company is extremely pleased at expanding its presence in this region.
"Alstom has been a steady partner in the reconstruction of Iraq’s energy infrastructure and we are confident that our superior technology will make Al-Anbar a flagship project for the country," Meszaros said.
