Moundsville Power spokesman Andrew W Dorn Jr said that the company received key support from Honeywell, which allocated a part of its site for the power project.

"Honeywell has been an indispensable partner in the development of the site, providing significant financial and engineering support to move the project forward," Dorn added.

The power plant project is expected to create more than 400 construction jobs during the estimated 30-month construction period. Once operational, it will employ 30 skilled workers.

According to the company, the plant will consume $105m worth of natural gas a year sourced from West Virginia producers and processors.

Moundsville Power awarded the contract to build the plant and provide construction and operating guarantees to a consortium consisting of CH2M Hill and General Electric (GE). CH2M Hill will be responsible for designing, engineering and building the power plant, while GE will supply the natural gas turbines and power island equipment. GE will also be responsible for providing a long-term contractual services agreement for its efficient operation.
