Enel North America, a unit of Italian energy company Enel, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with technology company Meta.

The PPA is for a 115MW portion of the Rockhaven wind farm in the US state of Oklahoma and marks the third collaboration between the two companies.

With a total capacity of 140MW, the Rockhaven wind farm is in Murray and Carter counties.

Enel Green Power North America head Stephen Pike stated: “As power demand increases due to electrification, data centres and artificial intelligence, with nearly 25 years of clean energy leadership, Enel is ready to meet this opportunity with a portfolio of clean power projects and demand response offerings.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with Meta through our third PPA. Meta has exemplified how the technology sector can build an interconnected future powered by clean energy.”

Enel has been supplying clean power to Meta since 2018 from the Rattlesnake Creek wind farm in Nebraska, which supports Meta’s Sarpy Data Center.

In 2023, Enel and Meta announced a PPA from the Alta Farms wind farm in Illinois for the DeKalb Data Center.

Commenting on the latest agreement, Meta global head of energy Urvi Parekh said: “We are thrilled to again partner with Enel to bring renewable energy to the grid.

“These projects support our regional operations and data centres, as well as our goal to match our electric usage with 100% clean and renewable energy.”

Enel North America has signed more than 100 PPAs, totalling more than 7.3GW of contracted capacity.

As part of its new three-year strategy, the company intends to address the growing corporate demand for renewable energy by providing clean power from 11GW of wind and solar assets.

Enel plans to boost demand response capacity in the US and Canada, further enhancing the flexibility and reliability of the grid.

In November 2024, ENGIE North America and Meta finalised an environmental attributes purchase agreement.

ENGIE is responsible for providing 260MW of renewable energy from its Sypert Branch solar project near Austin, Texas, close to Meta’s data centre in Temple.
