Laurentis Energy Partners has entered into an agreement with ORLEN Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) to support the preliminary work for small modular reactor (SMR) development in Poland.

The collaboration focuses on the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR), a key component for licensing GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy BWRX-300 SMRs in the country.

The PSAR is a comprehensive study, required by Poland’s National Atomic Energy Agency to demonstrate the safety of the BWRX-300 SMRs. It will cover environmental conditions, site characteristics, and other crucial factors for SMR deployment that will be prepared by Laurentis staff, based in Ontario, Canada.

OSGE CEO Rafał Kasprów said: “PSAR is one of the key elements of the whole licensing process for a nuclear power plant. By having such experienced partners involved in the project, we are confident that OSGE will deliver to the Polish nuclear authority a comprehensive report that meets all requirements of the Polish law.

“We are launching work on the first PSAR related to small modular reactors in the EU. This is a significant milestone in the SMR deployment process, and I believe it paves the way for bolder actions in other European countries, as well.”

The agreement, valued at up to $40m, was signed in Polish capital Warsaw, attended by key officials such as Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Electrification Stephen Lecce.
