Belgium-based renewable energy company Parkwind has awarded JDR a contract to supply, test and terminate cables for the 257MW Arcadis Ost I offshore wind farm in Germany.

The contract includes the supply of 45km of 33kV array subsea cable that will connect the wind farm’s 27 turbines.

The scope of the contract also includes technicians, tooling and test equipment for testing and terminating the array cable.

Located around 19km north-east of the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Arcadis Ost I project will be Parkwind’s fifth.

The project will bring Parkwind’s total operational capacity under management to more than 1GW.

Scheduled to be commissioned in 2023, the wind farm is expected to generate enough clean energy to power 300,000 households in Germany.

Parkwind electrical package manager Luc Smismans said: “With JDR joining the Arcadis Ost I project, we have now surrounded ourselves with some of the world’s best subsea cable manufacturers to complete our wind farm.

JDR plans to manufacture the cable for the Arcadis Ost I offshore wind farm at its facility in Hartlepool, England. Installation of the cables will begin next year.
