JA Solar has signed a 1.25GW module procurement agreement with the China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) for Africa’s largest photovoltaic (PV) storage project, to be located in Egypt.

The deal was signed on 14 January 2025 during the World Future Energy Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

JA Solar will be the exclusive supplier of high-efficiency n-type PV modules for the Abydos Phase II 1GW+600MWh PV-storage project, developed by AMEA Power and constructed by CEEC.

CEEC Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction’s deputy general manager and JA Solar Middle East sales director Sicheng Yang signed the agreement.

The agreement was formalised in the presence of key stakeholders: AMEA Power chairman Hussain Al Nowais, its chief technology officer Mahabir Sharma and its chief information officer Aqueel Bohra, CEEC Egypt International president Shupeng Su, and JA Solar Photovoltaic and Energy Storage BG president Tony Zhu.

The 20km² project will feature Africa’s largest PV installation and battery storage system, boosting Egypt’s renewable energy share and grid stability.
