Canada’s Innergex Renewable Energy has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a Luminant affiliate for 300MW of its Foard City wind project in Foard County, Texas, US.
Luminant is a Texas-based electric utility, which is wholly owned by Energy Future Holdings.
The sale of power to the affiliate will begin after Foard City begins commercial operations, which are expected to begin by the third quarter of next year.
Upon project completion, the facility will have an installed capacity of nearly 350MW.
Innergex Renewable Energy noted that the works at the site are progressing well and expects to issue a full notice to proceed with construction in the fourth quarter of this year.
Innergex president and chief executive officer Michel Letellier said: “With all of our ongoing development activities in the US, we are very pleased to have developed a new relationship with a strong offtaker such as Luminant.

By GlobalData“Innergex is on a growth trajectory and, thanks to our dedicated team of talented people, we intend to seize every sound opportunity to pursue our development in Canada, the US, France and in Latin America. We are on track to reach and exceed a net installed capacity of over 2,000MW by 2020.”
Innergex also completed a recent interconnection agreement for Foard City with Electric Transmission Texas (ETT), which is a joint venture between the subsidiaries of American Electric Power (AEP) and Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company (BHE).
The company also anticipates that the on-site activities that have been carried out since 2016 will allow the Foard City wind project to qualify for the US renewable tax incentives (production tax credits or PTC’s).
