Iberdrola, through its start-up programme Perseo, has invested in Revestimientos Técnicos Sostenibles (RTS) to advance innovative solutions in manufacturing insulation and anti-corrosion coatings.
The solutions are particularly relevant for offshore wind structures and building energy renovations, aiming to improve quality and achieve significant savings.
The investment follows more than three years of collaboration between Iberdrola and RTS, focusing on developing solutions using cork, hollow ceramic microspheres and aerogel.
These materials represent a technological breakthrough in protecting wind structures and offshore substation transformation rooms.
Iberdrola plans to incorporate these materials into the construction and maintenance of its offshore wind farms.
RTS, an Andalusian company founded in 2015, has established itself as a leader in thermal insulation manufacturing. The company is currently developing and approving products applicable to Iberdrola’s offshore wind and Smart Clima businesses.

By GlobalDataThe collaboration aims to enhance the sustainability of the energy industry through improved electrification and decarbonisation.
Based in Utrera, Seville, Spain, RTS joins Iberdrola’s Perseo portfolio which has invested more than €200m since 2008, focusing on innovative technologies and business models that promote sustainability.
The programme emphasises technological collaboration with start-ups and emerging companies globally, as well as launching new innovative businesses in the power industry.
In a similar development, Iberdrola, through its UK network subsidiary ScottishPower Energy Networks, has received authorisation from the UK regulator for the Eastern Green Link 1 project.
The project, representing a €3bn ($1.95bn) investment, involves installing a submarine cable connecting Scotland and England, enabling clean electricity transmission for two million UK homes.
This investment is vital for transporting the significant clean electricity the UK plans to generate in the North Sea.
ScottishPower Energy Networks is developing the project in partnership with National Grid Electricity.
The project will involve the installation of a 196km high-voltage, bi-directional subsea electricity cable between Torness in East Lothian, Scotland and Hawthorn Pit in County Durham.
Two high-voltage direct current converter stations will also be constructed at Torness and Hawthorn Pit.
