Cenergy Holdings’ cables segment Hellenic Cables, in partnership with Asso.subsea, has secured a turnkey contract from Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) for the Dunkerque offshore wind farm in France.
Hellenic Cables will be responsible for designing, manufacturing and supplying 32km of submarine cables for the offshore link, alongside 38km of underground cables for the associated land link.
The company will also supply necessary accessories and manage on-site jointing, testing, termination and commissioning of the cable links.
Hellenic Cables general manager Kostas Savvakis stated: “This project is an important step forward in supporting France’s renewable energy goals and Hellenic Cables is honoured to continue its collaboration with RTE.
“Our role in the Dunkerque offshore wind farm highlights Hellenic Cables’ commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions while fostering strong collaborations with industry leaders like RTE and Asso.subsea.”
Asso.subsea will oversee the transportation, installation and protection of the submarine cables.
The company will make use of its fleet and equipment to ensure a precise and efficient installation process.
Hellenic Cables’ plant in Corinth, Greece will produce submarine cables, while the underground cables will come from its facility in the Greek city of Thiva which is currently expanding its production capacity.
Dunkerque offshore wind farm will have the potential to generate between 500MW and 600MW of clean energy and will include two 225kV HVAC [heating, ventilation and air conditioning] export cables to transfer renewable energy to the French grid.
The project will play a significant role in reinforcing France’s clean energy infrastructure.
Asso.subsea chief operating officer Alexandros Tziotakis stated: “We are proud to collaborate once again with Hellenic Cables and RTE on the Dunkerque offshore wind farm, a landmark project that reinforces our shared commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
“Asso.subsea’s expertise in subsea cable installation and protection ensures the seamless integration of these critical components into the wind farm’s network.
“This project marks our return to France, following the successful completion of key projects such as Gruissan, Fécamp, Saint-Brieuc and PGL.”
In October 2024, Hellenic Cables won a contract to supply inter-array cables for the 2.4GW Leading Light wind project in the US.
