GE Vernova and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered a strategic framework agreement to address the accelerating global energy demand.

The collaboration aims to support AWS’ data centre scaling, advance grid security and decarbonise electric power systems.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

GE Vernova will provide AWS with solutions to electrify and decarbonise data centres across North America, Europe and Asia.

GE Vernova chief commercial officer Pablo Koziner stated: “We are excited to work in collaboration with AWS as they advance their computing capabilities and data centre capacity. We believe that GE Vernova is well-positioned through its broad portfolio of energy products and services to help AWS obtain reliable, cost-effective and more sustainable electricity for its data centres in support of their growth objectives.”

GE Vernova will continue to offer AWS turnkey substation solutions, enabling the connectivity of AWS data centres to the grid.

This will involve expanding major electrical equipment, project management and construction support across multiple global sites.

AWS and GE Vernova engineering teams will also work together to optimise data centre substation design and delivery.

The partnership will focus on commercialising onshore wind development projects and explore opportunities for GE Vernova to supply power generation equipment and services to AWS.

The companies will collaborate with GE Vernova’s accelerator businesses to advance energy transition innovation, research, project development and financing.

AWS general manager for energy and utilities Howard Gefen stated: “Through this expanded collaboration with GE Vernova, we’ll be able to accelerate data and energy efficiencies, driving reliable and more sustainable operations.

“Our shared goals of addressing increased global energy demand, advancing grid security and decarbonising electric power systems will help our customers across the globe.”

AWS will provide GE Vernova with cloud services solutions to support its cloud migration and digital innovation efforts, including generative AI.

The collaboration will introduce new technologies and cloud services, such as AWS high-performance computing.

It will help GE Vernova accelerate development cycles and optimise operations for advanced digital technology solutions using large computational power and cloud elasticity.

Furthermore, AWS will continue working with GE Vernova’s electrification software business to support AWS cloud deployments for the electric grid, power generation and manufacturing industries.

In January 2025, GE Vernova revealed plans to invest $600m in its US factories and facilities by 2027 to address the rising global demand for electricity.
