US-based GE Power has launched a new energy storage platform called GE Reservoir, which offers several customised options.
Developed using GE Global Research Center technology, the Reservoir platform offers a compact energy storage solution for AC or DC coupled systems.

The platform was designed to be integrated across the power grid to enable its customers to increase Renewables integration, as well as enhance grid operations while reducing energy costs.
GE president and CEO Russell Stokes said: “The energy landscape is undergoing an unprecedented paradigm shift, as the growth of renewables, decentralisation of power and digitisation create both new challenges and opportunities in how power is generated, transmitted and distributed.
“GE Reservoir delivers the new type of energy system that customers are looking for to help manage electricity’s next chapter.”
The Reservoir comprises advanced technologies including GE plant controls, power electronics, battery management systems and electrical balance of plant.
It is reported that the 1.2MW, 4MWh Reservoir Storage Unit is the fundamental building block of GE Reservoir.
The Reservoir also makes use of Predix and Edge controls technologies for providing data-driven insights, which help energy operators enhance their systems.
Combining all these features, GE Reservoir delivers a comprehensive energy storage platform to meet the needs of the energy industry.
GE Power vice-president and strategic technology officer Eric Gebhardt said: “GE Reservoir platform enables cost-effective distribution, storage, and utilisation of cleaner, more reliable power where and when it is needed most.
“It can fit into most any setting, from centralised grid systems to the most remote villages and communities. The Reservoir also allows energy providers new degrees of flexibility for more intelligently managing and getting the most out of all their power assets.”
