Bangladesh’s independent power producer Summit and GE Power have agreed to co-develop a combined cycle gas power plant called Meghnaghat II near Dhaka.
GE Power will offer a turnkey solution and will involve in the design, supply, installation and commissioning works for the project.

It will also supply a 9HA.01 gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), steam turbine generator, condenser and associated systems, as well as being responsible for offering a balance of plant (BOP) solutions.
Additionally, GE has agreed to provide maintenance and repairs services for the power generation equipment at the facility for a period of 20 years.
Once operational in 2022, the power plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power nearly 700,000 homes in Bangladesh.

“GE’s long-term association with Summit is a testimony to our efforts to support this transformation by introducing advanced, innovative solutions into Bangladesh’s energy ecosystem.
“This will contribute towards providing uninterrupted access to electricity to all, benefiting households, businesses and industries across the country.”
The announcement follows a 22-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between Summit Meghnaghat II Power Company (SMIIPCL) and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
