US-based Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is planning to build four new solar power plants this year.
FPL’s four solar plants include Okeechobee Solar Energy Center (Okeechobee County), Hibiscus Solar Energy Center (Palm Beach County), Echo River Solar Energy Center, Suwannee County and Southfork Solar Energy Center (Manatee County).
The new solar plant in Okeechobee County is expected to expand FPL’s clean energy footprint and also soon be home to the FPL Okeechobee Clean Energy Center, while the Hibiscus Solar Energy Center will be FPL’s largest installation to date in Palm Beach County.
On the other hand, FPL’s Echo River Solar Energy Center is said to be the largest solar installation in Suwannee County so far while Southfork Solar Energy Center will be FPL’s second solar plant in Manatee County and will join the FPL Manatee Solar Energy Center.
The 74.5MW power plants are expected to become operational by early 2020.
FPL president and CEO Eric Silagy said: “The construction of four additional solar energy centres is just the latest demonstration of our laser focus on advancing solar energy for all of our customers while keeping their bills lower than 90% of the country.

By GlobalData“These solar plants are part of our commitment to installing 30 million more solar panels by 2030 across more than 100 new solar sites, resulting in the creation of thousands of jobs here in our state.”
With a combined energy generation capacity of nearly 300MW, the new solar plants will be able to power nearly 60,000 homes in the region.
FPL estimates that the new solar plants will create 800 jobs as Florida continues to lead the nation in solar-related employment.
FPL currently operates 18 solar power plants, out of which two feature innovative energy storage, and hundreds of smaller solar installations.
