Blue Jay is a 270MW solar photovoltaic plant with a 59MW battery storage system, and is being developed in Grimes County, Texas. The solar facility is due to be operational by the end of this year.
Ranchland is a 263MW wind farm being developed in Callahan and Eastland counties. It will be paired with an 87MW battery system and is due to begin operations in the first quarter of next year.
Enel has started building the Rockhaven wind project in Oklahoma, which has 140MW of capacity. Built in Garvin and Carter counties, the project will come online by the end of this year.
Enel is increasing its portfolio in Illinois with the 200MW Alta Farms wind project. Located in DeWitt County, the wind farm is expected to begin operations in the second half of next year.
The company will also add 57MW battery storage systems for its two operational projects, the High Lonesome wind farm and Roadrunner solar farm in Texas.
Put together, these projects will have more than 1.5GW of new capacity and 319MW of battery storage capacity. During the construction phase, they will create more than 1,500 jobs.
Upon completion, they will have the capacity to generate more than 4.1TWh of clean energy, enough to power more than 525,000 US households a year. The projects are expected to offset 2.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year.
The renewable projects are expected to generate around $450m in tax revenue for local communities and new income for project landowners.
Enel Green Power CEO Salvatore Bernabei said: “With more than 2GW now under construction in the US, more than ever before, we are creating value with communities, partners and our entire value chain.
“This will help meet the ambitious clean energy targets of policymakers and businesses alike.”
Last month, Enel announced plans to expand its power distribution business into the US market.
The company plans to invest €16.2bn ($19.52bn) in distribution networks over the next two years, and €60bn ($72.23bn) by 2030.
