Singapore-based integrated solar manufacturing solutions provider EliTe Solar has announced plans to build an 8GW solar manufacturing hub in the Suez Special Economic Zone in Egypt.

The initiative follows discussions with Egypt’s Prime Minister and the chairman of the Suez Special Economic Zone.

The new facility will focus on the production of high-efficiency solar cells and module assembly, with a significant portion of the output destined for export to key markets, including the US.

It will entail an investment of $150m and will span 78,000m².

The facility will be developed in two phases. The first phase, featuring a 2GW solar cell production line, will be completed by September 2025.

Once fully operational, the facility will generate annual sales of more than $190m.

EliTe Solar’s new development in Egypt will create thousands of local jobs and substantially elevate the country’s export capabilities.

The new facility will join EliTe Solar’s existing manufacturing bases in Indonesia and Vietnam.

EliTe Solar chairman Derek Liu stated: “This venture will position Egypt as a central hub for photovoltaic manufacturing in the Middle East and North Africa.

“With a planned total production capacity of 8GW, we are introducing solar technology to revolutionise local supply chains and manufacturing standards.”

The development aligns with Egypt’s ambition to emerge as a regional leader in renewable energy.
