Eco Wave Power, an onshore wave energy technology company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) to harness India’s wave energy potential, estimated at 40,000MW.

Announced at India Energy Week 2025, held in New Delhi from 11 February to 14 February 2025, the agreement aims to integrate wave energy into India’s renewable energy mix.

The agreement has been signed by BPCL’s head of research and development Chandrasekhar N and Eco Wave Power’s founder and CEO Inna Braverman, witnessed by the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, and BPCL’s chairman and managing director G Krishnakumar.

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recognises ocean energy as a renewable resource with untapped potential.

In line with BPCL’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2040, the MoU outlines a joint effort to develop wave energy projects, beginning with a feasibility study and a 100kW pilot project at BPCL’s Mumbai oil terminals.

BPCL will manage the necessary regulatory approvals, permits and land use consents for the projects.
