Private investment firm DTEK, in partnership with Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas, has completed the construction of 100MW Orlivska windfarm in Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine.
Orlivska windfarm is the third wind power project completed by DTEK in Ukraine, which echoes the company’s focus in increasing green generation in line with the Energy Strategy of Ukraine.
With the completion of the Orlivska project, DTEK has also achieved its strategic goal to put 1GW in renewable energy in operation by 2020.
DTEK Maxim Timchenko CEO said: “Two years ago, DTEK officially announced its strategic goal, to build 1GW of the renewable energy in operation by the end of 2019.
“Today we have reached this goal. We have invested more than €1bn in the renewable energy sector of Ukraine, and we have created the unique expertise that allowed us to implement these large-scale and innovative projects.
“We are confident that Ukraine can become the leader of decarbonisation in Europe, providing our country with the homegrown clean energy. And we encourage all stakeholders to unite around this idea.”

By GlobalDataLocated on the shore of the Sea of Azov in Zaporizhzhia region, the windfarm is equipped with 26 wind turbines that were supplied by Vestas with a capacity of 3.8MW each.
Built with an investment of €131m, the Orlivska WPP will have the capacity to generate 380 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually that will be sufficient to power 190,000 private households in the region.
Of the total investment for this project, €40m of services and equipment were supplied by the Ukrainian companies. The company further added that the new facility will also offset nearly 400,000 tonnes of carbon emissions into the atmosphere annually.
DTEK noted that this year its renewables business has launched clean energy generation projects with a total capacity of 740MW.
The projects launched by the company are Nikopolska (240MW), Pokrovska (200MW), Prymorska (200MW), and Orlivska (100MW).
