Doosan Enerbility has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Equinor to collaborate on the 750MW Bandibuli floating offshore wind farm project in Ulsan, South Korea.

The MOU was signed at the headquarters of Doosan Enerbility in Changwon in the presence of Doosan Enerbility Power Services Business Group CEO Seungwoo Sohn, Siemens Gamesa’s offshore business CEO Marc Becker and Equinor Renewables APAC senior vice-president Ingunn Svegården.

The Bandibuli floating offshore wind farm project, spearheaded by Equinor off the coast of Ulsan, will see Siemens Gamesa deploying a 15MW large-size wind turbine.

Doosan Enerbility will contribute to the project by assembling the nacelles, a crucial wind turbine component, at its Changwon wind turbine shop.

Doosan Enerbility founded its offshore wind business in 2005 and offers a diverse product portfolio with models ranging from 3.3MW to 8MW.

It is the only entity in Korea supplying offshore wind turbines.

The collaboration between Doosan Enerbility and Siemens Gamesa first took shape with an MOU in June 2022.

This was followed by a binding framework agreement for strategic partnership in February 2023, laying the groundwork for the current MOU and future joint ventures in the sector.

Doosan Enerbility Power Services Business Group CEO Seungwoo Sohn stated: “The partnership between Doosan and Siemens Gamesa is recognised as a most realistic and optimal cooperation model that will help expedite the expansion of the Korean domestic wind market.

“With the signing of this MOU, we will be able to further solidify the partnership between the three companies and by continuously engaging in collaborations, we expect to contribute to the promotion of Korea’s offshore wind power ecosystem.”

In October 2023, Doosan Enerbility announced that it is bolstering its cooperation with Philippine companies on power projects.
