Chinese photovoltaic equipment manufacturer Trina Solar has agreed to expand its manufacturing capacity of 210mm solar cells by more than 10GW.
The company has reached an investment cooperation agreement with the management committee of Yancheng Economic and Technological Development Zone in Jiangsu province, China.

By GlobalDataTrina Solar plans to add 7.6GW of annual production capacity to its facility in the Yancheng zone, as well as increase its capacity outside the country by 2.5GW.
It also plans to upgrade 2.4GW of the existing production capacity at the Yancheng site.
After these expansions, Trina Solar expects its annual production capacity to reach 26GW, with 70% of production in ultra-high-efficiency 210mm cells by end of 2021.
Trina Solar chairman and general manager Gao Jifan said: “The company will further enhance its core competitiveness through cost and scale advantages coming from our expansion of the production capacity of high-efficiency large-size solar cells. We will also seize market development opportunities for monocrystalline products, and enhance the company’s profitability and competitiveness with the advantage of policies in Yancheng that are forward looking and give invaluable support to the industry.”
In a statement, the company said it will use 10GW of its 210mm cells in its new Vertex 600W+ product series. It anticipates that these moves will help technological innovation in the industry, and offer more choice for lessening levellised cost of energy.
Additionally, Trina Solar plans to invest in its research and development for large-size cells and modules. It says aims to ensure the average efficiency of newly-built passivated emitters and real cells reaches 23% by early 2021. It will also continue deploying battery and component technology to maintain its position in the market.
In November 2018, Trina Solar agreed to provide 190MW of its integrated PV solution TrinaPro to ACS Group’s subsidiary Cobra for a Spanish solar park.
