Capital Power, EDP Renewables Canada and Enel Green Power North America have been selected in the first round of Alberta’s Renewable Electricity Programme to provide approximately $1bn of private-sector investment in green power generation.
The companies proposed bids offering record-low renewable electricity pricing in Canada. They will develop approximately 600MW of windpower projects throughout Alberta, which will provide electricity to up to 255,000 households in the region.
Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said: “I’m pleased to see our plan is working to make life better and more affordable.
“This highly competitive programme is attracting investment from Alberta and around the world, creating new jobs in our province while getting Albertans the most renewable power generation for the lowest cost.”
Capital Power has made a bid to develop the 201MW Whitla windpower project located 60km southwest of Medicine Hat, Alberta, while EDP Renewables will be build a 248MW windfarm at the Sharp Hills project, which is approximately 50km north of Oyen.
Enel Green Power will construct the 115MW Riverview windfarm and Phase II of Castle Rock Ridge windpower plant.
