India’s private transmission and distribution company Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has won a Rs28bn ($324.3m) power transmission project in Gujarat.

The project aims to bolster the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia in Mundra and will completed by 2028.

This is AESL’s sixth order win during the fiscal year 2025, expanding its order book to Rs575.61bn.

It follows a share purchase agreement between AESL and PFC Consulting to acquire 100% equity shares of Mundra I Transmission (MITL).

The project will involve upgrades to the Navinal (Mundra) electrical substation, including the installation of two large 765/400kV transformers.

A 75km long 765kV double-circuit line will connect the substation to the Bhuj substation.

This project will add 150 circuit kilometres (cKM) of transmission lines and 3,000 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of transformation capacity, taking AESL’s total to 25,928cKM with an 87,186MVA transformation capacity.

AESL secured the project through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism, with PFC Consulting co-ordinating the bid process.

The project’s special purpose vehicle was officially transferred to AESL on 20 March 2025.

India aims to produce five million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and will require of renewable energy.

The government also aims to achieve at least 500GW of non-fossil power capacity by 2030, an increase from the current 165GW.

However, the development of renewable energy projects has been hindered by a lack of adequate power transmission infrastructure, leading to project delays and cancellations, as reported by Reuters.

In February 2025, Adani Green Energy announced that it is exiting two planned wind power projects in Sri Lanka after talks with the government on lowering power generation costs.
