Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energía has connected the first 27 turbines of the MacIntyre wind farm in Queensland, Australia to the country’s national grid.
This initial phase contributes 154MW to the region’s power supply.
The MacIntyre wind farm, projected to reach full capacity by October 2025, is set to bolster Queensland’s wind energy output significantly.
The installation of 162 Delta4000 turbines, each with a 5.7MW capacity, is underway and will deliver 923MW upon completion.
The energy generated from the wind farm will be distributed through power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Stanwell, Queensland’s publicly owned energy generator, and CleanCo, the state’s public electricity company.
Ark Energy, a subsidiary of Korea Zinc with a 30% stake in the MacIntyre project, will use its share of the energy produced to support the decarbonisation efforts of the Sun Metals Corporation.

The MacIntyre wind farm is a critical component of the expansive 2GW MacIntyre wind precinct, which also includes the 1GW Herries Range wind farm, currently in the advanced stages of development.
Throughout the construction phase of the MacIntyre wind farm, the workforce has ranged between 400 and 500, with employment peaking at more than 1,000.
In August 2024, ACCIONA Energía secured a 12-year contract for difference (CfD) for its Promina solar energy project in Croatia.
The 189MWp photovoltaic plant, currently under development, will become the largest solar facility in the country upon completion in 2027.
The Promina plant will be situated in the Šibenik-Knin province in southern Croatia.
It includes 300,000 photovoltaic modules, generating 320 gigawatt hours of clean electricity annually – sufficient to supply 69,000 homes and to prevent the emission of 140,000t of CO₂ each year.
